- Two new exhibitions...
Separated by Daily Life, Rhubarb East Gallery, The Mailbox, Birmingham (UK)
Four artists consider the demeanor of people in the process of being photographed, whether they are themselves, friends of their children, strangers in their underwear or anonymous city travelers.
We are showing a selection of our works in a brand new exhibition entitled Separated by Daily Life. Our work features alongside three other portrait artists and forms and exploration into the themes of people and their behaviour as they are being photographed.
Separated by Daily Life is part of a series of exhibitions and photographic events across Birmingham this month to celebrate Rhubarb-Rhubarb's international photography festival. Visit www.rhubarb-rhubarb.net for more information on this show and any of the other events taking place.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 24 July and runs for two weeks, ending on Saturday 7 August. More information for Separated by Daily Life can be found here.

- The Uses of Enchantment
Saturday 27 March to Saturday 12 June 2010
Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 5.30pm
Rhubarb East Gallery, Health Mill Lane, Birmingham B9 4AE
We are delighted to announce this exhibition that features a wide selection of our 'Cataclysmic Accounts from the Binary Institute' works. We are showing along side established photographer Vee Speers in this exciting, brand-new, space in the heart of Birmingham's cultural quarter, hosted by Rhubarb-Rhubarb.
Press release:
'The Uses of Enchantment', the first show at Rhubarb-East, brings together two series of work by The Jackson Twins, from the West Midlands, with Vee Speers from Paris. Both inspired by fables and fairy stories, nostalgia and psychology, they propose, at first, two seemingly playful series of portraits, featuring a birthday party for children and some double trouble using costume, disguise and female allure… Yet beyond the first enchantment, are troubled stories of war, power, intrigue and dark, magical and potent forces…
Rhonda Wilson, Creative Director of Rhubarb-Rhubarb, says, “ For years we have watched while the sometimes extraordinary talent emerging from our programme of support and mentoring schemes, has been shown by other people, both in the UK and in international spaces. Now we have the pleasure of showing the results of our efforts, in collaboration with some of the world’s most interesting image makers. The first show is just fantastic and we have created a whole environment for the photographs. If you are into Alice in Wonderland, or even if you're not – you will love to fall down this particular visual rabbit hole. The fact we are in a building named after us is just another aspect to the story. Its all been a brilliant adventure.”
The Jackson Twins have just returned from the opening of their exhibition in Sydney, Australia, as a result of winning a Rhubarb/Arts Council Bursary last year. Vee Speers is a regular visitor to the Rhubarb International Review and is collected by museums and individuals throughout the world – including DZ Bank, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Michael Wilson andElton John. She will shortly be showing with Annie Liebovitiz and Joel Peter Witkin in the premiere show at Fotografiska - the new phototography Museum in Stockholm.
